  • @Xydalona:
    Hallo, Xydalona!,

The King of Pop vs. the Fab Four

                  Clash of the Titans

Let me state from the outset that who goes to heaven or hell--including those who believe are Michael’s murderers--is not my call. I’m trying to work out my own salvation with fear and trembling! (Philippians 2:12) Still, the bottom line is, countless people believe he was killed over the extensive catalogue he partly owned. How extensive was it? Well, it included music from Mungo Jerry to Chuck Berry.

The King of Pop & His Court: When Michael Jackson agreed to merge his ATV Music Publishing with Sony in 1995 Sony/ATV Music Publishing became the third largest music publisher in the world. Aside from owning a substantial portion of the Beatles catalogue, the Gloved One now owned an interest in the rights to songs by music legends like Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan. He even owned the rights to newer younger acts like Eminem, Akon, Linda Perry, Bjork, Shakira, and Los Angeles-born Beck. And to top it all off, the King of Pop became the proud owner of rights to songs sung by The King himself, Elvis Presley. When in 1957 ATV purchased Pye Records the former inherited the rights to songs by major acts that were part of the British music invasion of the 1960s. Who were some of these mega acts?

The Kinks: "The Kinks are recognized as one of the most important and influential rock acts of the era." Their song You Really Got Me was an international hit. The Moody Blues: "The band has had numerous hit albums in the UK, U.S., and worldwide. They remain active as of 2009. The Moody Blues have sold in excess of 50 million albums worldwide and have been awarded 14 platinum and gold discs." Mungo Jerry: This was a very popular music group, particularly during the early 1970s. Perhaps their most recognizable song is In the Summertime. It was an international mega-hit. The well respected and highly regarded British music magazine Melody Maker reportedly christened Mungo Jerry the ‘best new band’ in 1970, "and as one of the five best live bands in the world in 1971."

The Searchers: This band from Liverpool, England had a string of monster hits during the 1960s. You may have heard of the "other" band from Liverpool; four guys who called themselves The Beatles. Petula Clark: This British Lady is an international star who not only has popular songs under her belt, but is an actress and composer whose career spans 70 years. Donovan: The Scott born as Donovan Phillips Leitch grew to become an accomplished guitarist-singer-songwriter. As a British recording artist he produced a string of hit singles and albums between 1965 and 1970. Furthermore, even after it was acquired by ATV, Pye Records continued to distribute songs by the likes of Carl Douglas and that inimitable crooner, Barry White.

The Jamaican-born Douglas kicked butt with his song Kung Fu Fighting as it topped the charts in 1974. It’s a cult classic to this very day. And hardly anyone needs to be told who the five-time Grammy-award winning "Sultan of Smooth Soul" is. Indeed, Barry White, whose melodic voice resonates in our hearts till this day, will forever be remembered--especially here in Los Angeles where he died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after suffering from renal failure as America celebrated its birthday on July 4, 2003. Not long thereafter the KJLH family, along with LA’s inner city community, met at a park as we all celebrated the Sultan’s music.

Then there’s the ultra-talented singer-songwriter-musician Hank Williams, best known today for the theme song for Monday Night Football. According to one music source his incredible "repertoire of skills include guitar, bass guitar, upright bass, steel guitar, banjo, Dobro, piano, keyboards, harmonica, fiddle, and drums." I’d need another column to list his awards! And, because of their astounding music, the Everly Brothers have been called "the most successful U.S. rock and roll duo on the Hot 100." Songs by the famed Roy Orbison were included in the 55,000 country songs that came into Michael’s possession along with the 125,000 plus songs (including orbital hits like Footloose and Moon River) he inherited when ATV bought Famous Music. The purpose of this stroll through what has become the former "killer catalogue" that belonged--at least in part--to one Michael Joseph Jackson? To demonstrate that he was the real "King," and that these acts constituted a part of his royal court.

Michael vs. McCartney: But, without a doubt, the most famous of the music Michael Jackson owned--at least in part--was the Beatles’ catalogue. Reportedly, songs like Yesterday, Drive My Car, Magical Mystery Tour, The Long and Winding Road, Blackbird, And I Love Her, Paperback Writer, Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, and, Let It Be, are included. Michael Jackson was publisher! What does this mean? "The publisher would…control the use of the song in films, commercials and stage productions." That means that whenever the songs were played, Michael got paid. "Jackson," the source continues, "went on to use the Beatles’ songs in numerous commercials, feeling that it would enable a new generation of fans to enjoy the music."

But, McCartney took exception to the King of Pop’s use of Beatles songs in commercials. Many thought that Paul spoke representatively for the Fab Four in voicing his objection, and Beatles fans the world over thought commercial use of Fab Four songs sacrilege! How would Michael respond to Paul’s umbrage? "If he didn’t want to invest $47.5 million in his own songs," The King of Pop is reported to have said, "then he shouldn’t come crying to me now." Say, say, say! And just think, I was told by a "reputable" source that Michael had willed the Beatles’ catalogue back Paul, and boldly printed this erroneous information right here in this column. But, as if to scold me from the grave, my friend and brother, Michael Jackson, is quoted as saying way back in 2001: "I want to clarify a silly rumor: The Beatles catalogue is not for sale, has not been for sale and will never be for sale." In other words, he had no intentions of letting it go, go, go!

John Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, weighed in and called the Jackson purchase a "blessing." She’s quoted as saying: "Businessmen who aren’t artists themselves wouldn’t have the consideration Michael has. He loves the songs. He’s very caring." She reportedly lamented: "If Paul got the songs, people would have said, ‘Paul finally got John.’ And if I got them, they’d say, ‘Oh, the dragon lady strikes again.’" Ono is alleged to have said that if she and Paul owned the songs, there would invariably be arguments between them. She then confessed that neither party needed that. Additionally, given the fact that Paul is said to have used the Buddy Holly song catalogue in commercials himself, some see his objection to Michael’s use of the Beatles’ song(s) in such as quintessential hypocrisy.

Either way, the Titans are clashing no more. Michael Jackson is dead, and he was unable to take his riches (valued at two billion dollars per his attorney) with him. Indeed, it is as Scripture states: "For at his death he cannot take along anything at all." (Psalm 49:17) "Just as one has come forth from his mother’s belly, naked will one go away again, just as one came; and nothing at all can one carry away for his hard work." (Ecclesiastes 5:15) Will there be justice for Jackson? Why has God allowed this? What will be the ultimate outcome? Stay tuned!

Fairness Flop for the King of Pop?

                    Day 196, Week 28, Article 27

Residents of Los Angeles' inner city communities are growing more frustrated with the endless delay in the death investigation of Michael Joseph Jackson. Some fear justice will not be served; that fairness will not be a factor. With this disheartening thought in mind a few "homies" have been known to crack open a "forty" (a glass bottle of malt liquor holding 40 fluid ounces, or 1.18 liters) and pour out an ounce or two in honor of the fallen King of Pop before imbibing. It's a ritual of remembrance that's woven into the fabric of LA's cultural gangsterism, drive-by shooting and all. And, yes, love for the Jacksons transcends territorial boundaries set by Crips and Bloods who embrace divergent ideologies that are simultaneously similar.

This was demonstrated when I took Jermaine Jackson, Michael's older brother, through the Nickerson Gardens Housing Projects (Boulevard of Bloods), and then to the Jordan Downs Housing Projects (Crip City), both in South Los Angeles. When we got out the car misty-eyed hardened gangbangers, completely awestruck upon recognizing who he was, tenderly embraced him. They put the forties away. Intriguingly, their ancient African ancestors consumed beer on various occasions, no doubt including sad ones.

"Clay models of breweries have been found in ancient Egyptian tombs," says The Watchtower of February 1, 2010. Over 39 million copies of this issue have been printed. Michael told me he enjoyed reading and distributing this magazine. But Africans were not the only ancient peoples consuming beer. "In Babylon, beer was an everyday drink both in palaces and in the homes of the poor," says The Watchtower. "The Philistines enjoyed a similar brew," the international magazine, printed in 180 languages continues. "Throughout Palestine, archaeologists have found jugs equipped with strainer spouts. Those vessels strained the beer, preventing drinkers from swallowing husks of the barley from which it was brewed." (See Isa. 1:22; Hos. 4:18; and Nah. 1:10 in the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures) Still, knocking down beers is a poor way to practice patience. Lovers of justice would do well to embrace Job as an example of patience.

The Patience of Job: "You have heard of the endurance of Job," says the Bible, "and have seen the outcome Jehovah gave." (Jas. 5:11) For a certainty, Job endured unfairness and injustice, only to be later rewarded in double measure by God. (Job 42:10) Michael's family, friends, fans, and others also need to endure as the investigation drags on, giving the appearance that the ones guilty of homicide will walk away unscathed. Delays in justice have historically emboldened guilty ones. "Because sentence against a bad work has not been executed speedily," wrote wise King Solomon, "that is why the heart of the sons of men has become fully set in them to do bad." (Eccl. 8:11) As God's eternal purpose unfolds the guilty will eventually be brought to justice, irrespective of what happens at any trial that springs from Michael's death investigation. Jehovah already knows the ultimate outcome. Scripture says that he is "the One telling from the beginning the finale." (Isa. 46:10) In the meantime our faith is put to the test.

A Test of Faith & the Freedom of Choice: But why would God test our faith when he already knows "from the beginning the finale"? One could wax philosophic about how faith tests intertwine with free moral agency. But, the fact is, details of God's omniscience are often grossly misunderstood. For instance, the All-Knowing Creator chooses not to peer into and subsequently micromanage details of human activity as he gives humans latitude in exercising their freedom of choice. Of course, free will comes with consequences--either good or bad. (Deut. 30:19, 20) God tested his worshipers so as to know what they would do. Consider these examples:

"Now after these things it came about that the true God put Abraham to the test." (Gen. 22:1) After testing Abraham God said: "Now I do know that you are God-fearing." (Gen. 22:11-12) Moses told the Israelites that God "put you to the test so as to know what was in your heart, as to whether you would keep his commandments or not."(Deut. 8:2, 16) Moses similarly said: "Jehovah your God is testing you to know whether you are loving Jehovah your God with all your heart and all your soul." (Deut. 13:3; see also the same ‘testing-to-know' formula at Judges 2:22, Judges 3:1, 4, and Judges 6:38-40) This explains in part why it may take longer than we'd like in yearning for justice. Sinners may repent, and saints may sin! (Ezek. 3:17-21; 33:11) In the meantime, we have to stay the course. All these Scriptural examples show that while it cannot be properly called the "Fallacy of God's Omniscience," the reality is that God does on occasion choose to restrict his knowledge of the future. Still, God's irrepressible purpose will prevail.

To illustrate, when a neglected dam built by a competent designer breaks, the water rushes through several abandoned roads of equidistance that lead to a nearby cesspool. Each road has an equal amount of its own curves, slopes, pitfalls, obstacles and other unique characteristics. Theoretically, the waters should reach the cesspool simultaneously. So it is with humankind when we, despite being perfectly designed, sinfully exercise our free will and break out on various erroneous courses. No matter the different twists and turns we take, ultimately, we will still end up in a cesspool of evil, a quagmire of doom. The success of God's unalterable, indomitable will is not in the least contingent upon humankind's behavior--or misbehavior. Michael Jackson knew this. He also knew of the sinister force that ceaselessly seduces "suckers" into sinning.

The Satanic "System": It has been reported that in his unreleased song Escape Michael Jackson talked about a certain diabolical "system." They say the lyrics are: "Gotta get away from the system, rules and the world today (I can find a way)." The Bible tells us that Satan the Devil, "the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through." (2 Cor. 4:4) Michael knew this worldly system belongs to Satan. He knew this from reading of one of three tests Satan leveled against Jesus: "For the second test he [Satan] led him [Jesus] up and spread out all the kingdoms of the earth on display at once. Then the Devil said, ‘They're yours in all their splendor to serve your pleasure. I'm in charge of them all and can turn them over to whomever I wish. Worship me and they're yours, the whole works.'" (Luke 4:5-7, Message Bible) Will the judicial system past the test of dispensing justice in the case of Michael Jackson?

Divine Justice: "Law grows numb, and justice never goes forth. Because the wicked one is surrounding the righteous one, for that reason justice goes forth crooked."(Hab. 1:4) Fairness falls flat on its face when many court cases are adjudicated. "But as for me," Prophet Micah wrote, "it is for Jehovah that I shall keep on the lookout. I will show a waiting attitude for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me." (Micah 7:7) Without a doubt, divine justice will be realized. The Bible alerts the wrongdoer to "know that your sin will catch up with you." (Num. 32:23) Whether it's bad karma, or the secular saying, "What goes around comes around," evildoers need to know that "You reap what you sow." (Gal. 6:7) Count on it.

Can we count on a fight as estate attorneys jostle with Joe Jackson? Will Joe's attorney Brian Oxman continue to be his brash axe man? Stay tuned as the battle for justice heats up!

Also so viel steht fest, Michael wollte diesen Katalog( 50 %) unter keinen Umständen verkaufen und Yoko Ono sagte, dass dieser Katalog besser bei Michael aufgehoben ist.
