Cirque's Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour Tops Hot Tours 2013
By Bob Allen | March 08, 2013 1:12 PM EST
Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour, Cirque du Soleil's touring production that has been playing arenas in North America and Europe since October 2011, owns the No. 1 ranking on this week's Hot Tours tally with grosses reported from venues in Russia and Switzerland. The theatrical concert production that features the music of the late King of Pop began its European leg last fall following a yearlong trek through North American markets.
The tour has appeared in three Russian cities since the launch of the European trek on October 12. The first engagement was in Saint Petersburg in November with four performances at the Ice Palace, the city's 12,000-seat ice hockey arena. The Immortal Tour spent the rest of 2012 on the road in Germany, Austria and Spain but returned to Russia at the beginning of this year with three performances in the city of Kazan. A run of six shows followed in Moscow at the Olimpiyskiy, an arena built for the 1980 Summer Olympics. The Moscow shows generated more than $9.9 million in ticket revenue from over 76,000 sold seats.
The Swiss venue that hosted Cirque du Soleil's Michael Jackson tour was Zürich's Hallenstadion with $2.8 million in revenue from a three-night run of shows. The Immortal tour played at the arena on Feb. 13-15 with attendance from all three performances surpassing 20,000.
The Jonas Brothers land at No. 3 on Hot Tours with totals reported from the first three venues on the Latin American portion of the pop trio's world tour that kicked off last October in New York City. Two Mexican cities are on the group's 2013 tour itinerary, and concert promoter OCESA reported gross and attendance totals from both markets this week. More than 18,000 tickets were sold for shows in Monterrey (Feb. 20) and Mexico City (Feb. 22) totaling $1.2 million in gross revenue. The first date on the South American leg of the tour was also reported to Billboard this week. Concert promoter Evenpro/Water Brother reported totals from a performance in Caracas, Venezuela at Simón Bolívar University on Feb. 24.
Muse scores the No. 5 Hot Tours slot with concert box office totals reported from the North American leg of the English band's 2nd Law Tour that began in Europe last year. Ticket sales topped $2 million from five U.S. arenas beginning with the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. on February 22. The tour also played in Tampa and Orlando before heading to Cincinnati on February 27. A March 4 performance at Chicago's United Center rounds out this week's recap.

Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour soars to No. 1 on the weekly Hot Tours tally with ticket sales revenue reported from arenas in eight European cities. Combined grosses from 31 performances of the Cirque du Soleil touring production totaled $19.4 million with multiple concerts at each venue. The most shows were held at the 17,000-seat Bercy arena in Paris (April 2-7) with a total of eight performances. The sold ticket count topped 58,000 from all eight shows in Paris. Since the Immortal tour began in 2011, two million fans of the late King of Pop have seen the show, producing a revenue total that nears the $212 million mark.
Luis Miguel takes the No. 2 slot among the top-grossing tours of the week with $9.6 million in box office grosses from 16 concerts at Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City. The first concert was held on Jan. 31, followed by ten performances in February and five more in March. His run of multiple concerts at the Mexico City concert venue during the early months of the year continues a tradition for the Latin pop singer. He last appeared there in 2011 when he played 20 shows during February and March, grossing over $10 million. Based on box office totals reported to Billboard, he has performed multiple-show runs at the Mexican capital city’s national auditorium seven times since 2000.
No. 3 this week is country star Jason Aldean who earns his first Hot Tours ranking since launching the Night Train Tour on February 21 in Bossier City, La. From the tour’s first ten concerts reported during the past week, the sold ticket count is 143,919 with grosses topping $8.4 million. Among the venues included in this week’s report is the first stadium date on the Georgia native’s 2013 tour schedule. His concert on April 13 was held at Sanford Stadium on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens. The sold out event drew a crowd of 60,968 and also featured fellow country singers Luke Bryan and Jake Owen on the bill.
Ranking fourth this week is the Killers with three concerts grossing $5.7 million reported from the Battle Born World Tour that supports the rock band’s most recent album release. The first concert occurred on March 4 at Hamburg’s O2 World arena, part of the European leg of the tour that ran during February and March. Also included are two concerts in Mexican venues that wrapped a Latin American trek that kicked off in late March and ran through April 13. The Las Vegas-based rockers will launch a North American leg of the tour on April 27 at San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.

Michael Jackson is KILLING IT in the graveyard ... making more money than any other dead celebrity in Hollywood, including Liz Taylor and Elvis, this according to Forbes.
The mag just released its annual list of top-earning dead celebrities ... and this year, MJ took back the crown from his good friend and fellow dead-person Liz Taylor, last year's top-earner.
Here's the breakdown according to the mag:
1) Michael Jackson, $160 million
2) Elvis, $55 million
3) Charles Schulz, $37 million
4) Liz Taylor, $25 million
5) Bob Marley, $18 million
MJ was #2 last year, but two successful *****-inspired Cirque du Soleil shows have shot the King of Pop back to the top.

How the Cirque du Soleil's "Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour" became the ninth-top-grossing tour of all time, and what's next for the late King of Pop, who has earned more money in death than when he was living.
CONCEIVED THROUGH AN equal revenue-sharing partnership between the Jackson estate and Cirque du Soleil, "Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour" recently became the No. 9 top-grossing tour of all time, earning $325.1 million from 407 shows that drew 2,985,324 concert-goers, according to Billboard Boxscore. Tickets prices ranged between $50 and $250.
"Immortal" also ranked fourth among Billboard's top 25 highest-grossing tours of 2012 and took home the Creative Content Award at the Billboard Touring Awards that same year. Although official rankings haven't yet been released, "Immortal" will rank among the highest-grossing tours of 2013 as well.
On the Boxscore chart, "Immortal" edges out the Rolling Stones' 1994-95 Voodoo Lounge tour (ranked No. 10, with $320 million in grosses) and trails Bruce Springsteen's 2012-13 Wrecking Ball tour (No. 8, $347 million). U2, the Stones and Roger Waters are the top three highest-grossing touring acts, respectively. Jackson is the only deceased artist among the top 10.
The Jackson estate's deal with Cirque also includes a permanent Las Vegas theater production, "Michael Jackson One," that debuted in May at a refurbished, 1,800-seat theater at Mandalay Bay, the former home of "The Lion King" and "Mamma Mia!" Since opening, "One" has been selling at about 93% occupancy from an average of 10 shows per week, according to Cirque.
"The 'One' and 'Immortal' shows represent a true Michael experience, the next best thing to seeing him live," says Branca, who now serves as co-executor of the Jackson estate with John McClain. "'Immortal' is akin to a rock concert experience with a live band in an arena, and 'One' is more of a theatrical show."
With a total development cost of about $145 million, "Immortal" and "One" are two separate and distinct productions built around Jackson's music. Both shows were written and directed by Jamie King, a dancer on Jackson's Dangerous world tour in the early '90s. The productions also feature several other musicians, choreographers and costume designers Jackson worked with during his career.
Despite the onstage absence of Jackson himself, King says the songs, images, spoken-word interludes and other visuals chosen for "Immortal" and "One" reflect the very best of the pop legend's life and musical career.
"I had the heavy responsibility of bringing Michael's spirit onto the stage, reflecting his creative sensibilities and projecting his unbelievable talent for his fans," says King, who has also directed arena tours by Madonna, Britney Spears and Rihanna. "Michael was never, ever missing during the development, rehearsals and launch of these two shows."
"Immortal" debuted at Montreal's Bell Centre in October 2011 and performed its 407th show at New Zealand's Vector Arena on Nov. 3. The trek will relaunch in December with a lengthy run in Dubai before returning to various-sized North American arenas in March 2014 (see story, right). Cirque is also in talks with international promoters about bringing "Immortal" to select overseas territories. So far, it has already visited 25 countries on four continents.
Lamarre believes the tour will continue to climb the Boxscore chart. "I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the tour, whenever the end of the tour is, we ranked among the top five touring shows in the history of rock'n'roll," he says.

Additionally, Cirque is in discussions with international promoters about bringing "Immortal" back to various parts of the world. With 407 shows under its belt, the trek has visited 25 countries on four continents. International dates haven't been confirmed beyond a lengthy run in Dubai, which goes through mid-January 2014.
"Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour," which recently became the ninth-top-grossing tour in history, will return to North American arenas in 2014, Billboard can exclusively reveal.
Hoffentlich kommen die Show nochmal nach Europa. *Daumen drück*

Die Immortal-Tour war 2013 die 2. erfolgreichste Tour hinter Bon Jovi
Bon Jovi beats Michael Jackson, Pink, Bruce Springsteen for 2013's biggest tour
December 16, 2013 4:15PM
THIRTY years after they formed Bon Jovi have scored the most successful world tour of 2013.
Their Because We Can tour grossed $229 million over 102 dates that started in February.
The figures don't even count the Australian stadium leg - tomorrow's show in Brisbane is the last date of the band's entire world tour.
The tour survived the sudden departure of guitarist Richie Sambora in March and sold over 2.2 million tickets globally.
"This is crazy business doing stadiums 30 years on," Jon Bon Jovi said in Melbourne. "I think that generation tells the next generation you gotta see this band live. That's the blessing. It's more than guys that grew up in the '80s."
And death hasn't impeded Michael Jackson's ability to sell concert tickets.
The MJ-themed Cirque Du Soleil show Immortal was the second biggest concert tour of the year.
Launched in 2011, the show features performers inspired by Jackson's music, and a live band playing his hits.
It made $175 million this year, including 26 shows in Australia where the best tickets were priced at $450.
Australia's biggest tour - Pink's The Truth About Love - was 2013's third-biggest seller.
It grossed $165 million, however like Bon Jovi, US dates in November and December have yet to be factored into the overall figures.
Pink's 46 shows in Australia generated $72 million, with her record-breaking 18 shows at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena generated over $29 million alone.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's 2013 tour, which was the year's fourth most popular, was also boosted by a sell-out Australian leg in March.
Springsteen's tour generated $164 million, just behind Pink.
Another Australian visitor, Rihanna, was the year's fifth biggest tour, with ticket sales generating $154 million.
The Top 10 featured The Rolling Stones, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Depeche Mode and country star Kenny Chesney.
Teen kings One Direction and Justin Bieber missed the Top 10

Recently named the ninth-top-grossing tour of all time and the #2 tour on international music publication, Billboard’s Top 25 World Tours of 2013, the show has earned a worldwide following since its premiere in Montreal on October 2, 2011, earning USD325.1 million from 406 shows in 117 cities in 26 countries that have drawn over three million concert-goers till date. The international cast features 49 world-class performers (11 band members, 18 acrobats, 20 dancers). Four of the band members previously worked with the King of Pop himself, including drummer Jonathan ‘Sugarfoot’ Moffett who played with Michael Jackson and his brothers for over 35 years, and percussionist Bashiri Johnson, who along with Moffett was a part of Michael Jackson’s ‘This Is It’ concert.
Johnson said: “This show is the embodiment of everything that Michael stood for. Notably, this is their longest stop at a single venue since they started the tour in Las Vegas, and the only performance of the show in the Middle East. With just a week to go before the show concludes, we encourage fans and patrons to grab this one-off chance to enjoy the magical combination of Michael Jackson and the Cirque du Soleil.”
