Am 21. Februar findet im Mandaly Bay Hotel eine Medienkonferenz statt mit Show-Diretor Jamie King, Creation Direktor Welby Altidor, Estate-Verwalter John Branca und Cirque Präsident Lamarre statt wo der Name der Show (haben die Fans ja schon rausgefunden ) und das Logo enthüllt wird. Die ersten Previews zur Show wird es am 23. Mai geben und am 21. Juni ist die Gala-Premiere angesetzt. Ende des Monats werden die Proben von Montreal ins Mandaly-Bay-Hotel verlegt wo die Bühnenkonstruktion fertiggestellt wurde

GUESSING GAME: Officials from Cirque du Soleil and the executors of the Michael Jackson Estate confirmed Tuesday that they will reveal details and the title of the new Mandalay Bay residency show at a media conference Feb. 21. The guessing game has started as to whether it will be known as “MJ1” or “MJ One” -- or with his name spelled out when they unveil the logo.

Show Director Jamie King and Creation Director Welby Altidor will be there with legal eagle John Branca, who runs the estate, plus, Cirque President Daniel Lamarre. Vegas DeLuxe has reported that the cast from Montreal headquarters begins rehearsals before month’s end in the theater now that construction is complete, with previews commencing May 23 ahead of the June 21 gala premiere.

Cirque du Soleil's second partnership with the estate of Michael Jackson aims to be a thriller.

Performances werden am 23. Mai starten im Mandaly Bay. Die offizielle Eröffnung ist Ende Juni.
Cirque's Welby Altidor tells USA TODAY that Michael Jackson ONE will begin performances May 23 and take up residency at the renovated theater at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The show is a partnership between Cirque and the Jackson estate. The official grand opening is planned for late June.

The 90-minute show will feature five dozen cast members, from dancers to acrobats (no one will portray Jackson), and offer "a very close encounter with the music of Michael Jackson" and with the late pop icon's artistic vision, Altidor, "director of creation" for ONE, says.

Unlike Cirque's current touring arena Jackson show, IMMORTAL, the Mandalay Bay production will be more intimate and interactive, Altidor says. "It's another story about Michael's genius," focusing on his No. 1 hits. "There will be experiences above (the audience), on the side and in the front."

Michael Jackson's New Vegas Show 'One' Will Double The Fun

Michael Jackson pulled in an estimated $145 million last year from beyond the grave–tens of millions more than any living musician. A big part of that: his Immortal World Tour, a joint venture between the Michael Jackson Estate and Cirque du Soleil. It grossed $160 million in its first leg, tops among North American tours in 2012.

On the heels of that success, Jackson’s estate and Cirque du Soliel have announced another endeavor: Michael Jackson One, a brand-new show set to run indefinitely at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, set to debut in preview form on May 23rd, 2013. The official premiere will follow on June 29th, 2013.

“Michael Jackson is an all-time phenomenal artist, both timeless and contemporary,” said Cirque chief Daniel Lamarre in a statement. “As a creative challenge, this project is the ultimate. The new show means that Michael Jackson will soon be able to do something that no artist has ever done before: play two arena shows at the same time. Even as fans gather for the first performance of One in Vegas on May 23rd, the same thing will be happening on the other side of the world as the Immortal World Tour rolls into Nagoya, Japan. Just hours after the official Vegas premier the following month, Immortal will take the stage in Taipei, Taiwan.

Directed by Jamie King, the plot of Michael Jackson One will follow four misfits as they embark upon a musical, visual, theatrical adventure. The title of the show reflects its inspiration and recurring theme–unity and peace–the sort of themes Jackson explored in songs like “Man In The Mirror” and “Heal The World.”

In addition to being a brilliant entertainer–taking millions places they hadn’t been through music and videos alike–Jackson was also quite a savvy businessman in his day (a theme I’m exploring in my upcoming book, Michael Jackson, Inc., due out next year for Simon & Schuster).

It seems Jackson the musician would have enjoyed the notion of his songs reaching potentially twice as many people through two Cirque du Soleil shows–and it’s likely that Jackson the businessman would have been quite pleased by the financial implications as well.

Cirque du Soleil's new "Michael Jackson One" show plans to tap into the pop star's years of being hounded by tabloid journalists.

Previews of the show start May 23. The grand opening is set for June 29 in the 1,800-seat theater.

Welby Altidor, Cirque's director of creation, said, "We wanted to do a tongue-in-cheek" reference to add a darker force that "talks about his relationship with the media."

The 63 artists representing 17 nationalities will include acrobats from all over the world and three dance crews: the Art Farmers from Korea, a girl group known as ReQuest from New Zealand and 787 Crew from Puerto Rico.

Dancers called the MJ Warriors will "create the first line of defense for Michael," Altidor said.

Another act he is convinced will be a crowd pleaser will be the slack-line artists.

"It's a completely new discipline that's been emerging on the urban front. Imagine an elastic line attached to poles. The artists bounce and do acrobatics on it, really cool tricks. It's really popular with youngsters around the word."

He said the song "Dirty Diana," which wasn't in the touring Jackson show "The Immortal," will feature a Las Vegas pole dancer named Jeanine.

"The twist," Altidor said, "will be a twisted pole like no one's ever seen. It's like those straws that are twisted."
